Dr. Hammer graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1967.
Since graduation, he has served as an employee, partner and Chief of Staff at Norwood Park Animal Hospital. In May 2016, he sold Norwood Park Animal Hospital to his associate Dr. Kathy Anderson, and remains on staff as our part-time surgeon and associate veterinarian in partial retirement. During his tenure, he has published extensively. In 1982, Dr. Hammer was accepted into the American College of Veterinary Surgeons as a soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeon. He has developed techniques for the repair of cleft palate, harelip and multiple orthopedic procedures.
Dr. Hammer is married and has an adult son, along with two dogs and four cats. When not practicing veterinary surgery and medicine he enjoys photography, fishing, skiing, shooting sports and building accurate models of 19th-century sailing vessels.
